D A D D7 G D A D Bm7 Part 1 E7 A7 D You know, all too soon seemly our children grow up G D A7 overnight. They get married; some of them go to college. D A They move away from home to New York and Chicago and D D7 other places. But the saddest thing about it is that they G forget that they have a darling mother back home. So it is D I’m thinking about a young man who left and moved away A D Bm7 to Germany, and while he was there, he was critically E7 A7 wounded so much so that the doctor said, “that he would D G never walk again”. He had braces on his legs and another D A7 D sad thing happen to that young man, He lost his mother. And A D D7 the family tried to get in touch with him but to no avail. And G finally we see that young man standing with braces on his D A D Bm7 legs before a fresh grave, with on faded rose in his hand. As E7 A7 he began to drop the petals from the rose on that grave, he D G began to talk to his mother. These are some of the words he D A7 was saying to his mother: D A D D7 G D A Petals from this faded roses momma, is all I have to give, D Bm7 E7 A7 D But momma I tried to give you flowers, every now and then. But one A7 D G thing I did, I knew that you would be pleased with, I took D A D my diamond ring and placed it, on momma’s finger and the D7 other sister said,” Brother, so do you remember that fur coat G that I had, I draped it about momma’s shoulders, but the D A young man standing there crying, couldn’t think about D Bm7 E7 diamonds and furs. All he could think of was the best thing A7 D he had was gone, and with the few more petals left on the G D rose, he continue to drop them on the grave and he said to A7 his mother: D A D7 G Diamond rings and silver things momma, I never had, I D A D Bm7 E7 never had to give, but momma I tried to give you a flower A7 D G D D7 every now and then.
