G “In those days a decree went out C from Caesar Augustus that the whole G empire should be registered. G This first registration took place while G Quirinius was governing Syria. C G So everyone went to be registered, D each to his own town. G Joseph also went up from the town G of Nazareth in Galilee, to Judea, C to the city of David, which is G D called Bethlehem, because he was Em of the house and family line of David, C to be registered along with D Mary, who was engaged to him and C D was pregnant. C While they were there, D the time came for her to give D birth. G Then she gave birth to her Em C firstborn son, and she wrapped him D tightly in cloth and laid him in a Am C manger, because there was no guest D room available for them. Am In the C same region, shepherds were staying G out in the fields and keeping watch D at night over their flock. D Then an Am angel of the Lord stood before C them, and the glory of the Lord C shone around them, and they were G terrified. D But the angel said to G D them, “Don’t be afraid, for look, I Em proclaim to you good news of great C joy that will be for all the G people: Verse 11 D Today in the city of David Em a Savior was born for you, who is C the Messiah, the Lord. Verse 12 Em This will be D the sign for you: You will C find a baby wrapped tightly in D G cloth and lying in a manger.” Verse 13 F C Suddenly there was a multitude of D the heavenly host with the angel, D praising God and saying: Verse 14 G Am Glory G C to God in the highest heaven, and G Am7 G C peace on earth to people he favors! Verse 15 G Am G When the angels had left them and C G returned to heaven, the shepherds Am G said to one another, “Let’s go C G straight to Bethlehem and see what Am G C has happened, which the Lord has G Am G C made known to us.” Verse 16 C They hurried off C G and found both Mary and Joseph, and Em the baby who was lying in the D manger. Verse 17 D After seeing them, they C reported the message they were told G about this child, Verse 18 G and all who heard Em it were amazed at what the D shepherds said to them. Verse 19 Am But Mary Em was treasuring up all these things G in her heart and meditating on D them. Verse 20 G The shepherds returned, Am glorifying and praising God for all Am the things they had seen and heard, C which were just as they had been G told.” G Am Glory G C to God in the highest heaven, and G Am7 G C peace on earth to people he favors!
