The Marquee In Drumlish

G D G When I was just a little boy my one and only wish C G D Was to get to see the showbands at the marquee in Drumlish. C G D I'd watch them all arrive in fine wagons and big cars G D G And I wondered what it would be like to be a country star. G D G My father used to tell me that I was far too small C G D And I had no change to go to the dance to see the bands at all C G D But my mother would get 'round him and I would get my wish G D G And we'd go to see the Mainliners in the marquee in Drumlish. C G I'd watch Seamus McMahon as he played his lead guitar D And I wondered how he got that sound that's loved so near and far C G D When Big Tom sang "Gentle Mother" sure I can tell you this, G D G That everyone would sing along in the marquee in Drumlish. G D G Larry And The Mighty Avons were among my favourites too C G D How I envied Micky Brady with his Fender coloured blue C G D When Larry sang he had them all, no notes he ever missed G D G You could hear that fence and echo around the marquee in Drumlish. G D G Philamena Country favour would take the old band stand C G D And I'd watch when Dan O'Hara pick and play my ramblin man C G D And later on when I got home I'd check the old jam jar. G D G To see if I had saved enough to buy my first guitar. G D G So next morning with my mother we went to Longford Town C G D And she bought me that first guitar, I think it was twelve pounds C G D With radio and records I practised all alone G D G Soon I had the job with The Hilos and Gene Stuard from Tyrone G D G And then one Friday Evening came that biggest break of all C G D I was asked to join The Buckaroos with the mighty Brian Coll C G D We played all over Ireland, England and The U.S.A G D G And I owe a lot to Brian for what I am today G D G And now the people tell me that I could go far C G D We play all over Ireland from Cork to Castlebar C G D The carnival is over but I still got my wish G D G For I got my inspiration, at the marquee in Drumlish. D G No I wont forget marquee in my native town Drumlish.
