Paddy Faheys Reel - Suitable For Violin And Mandolin

I originally heard this tune as the opening track on Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill's

'The Lonesome Touch' (1997) - played on the violin. I nutted it out on the mandolin

 - the positions are the same for mandolin and violin if you are handy at reading tab.

If you listen to the track you will pick up the rhythm.


This acts as a good guide for me when playing along to this track. There may be a few slight

bells and whistles missing from the original arrangement(as is standard with any

 Martin Hayes treatment of traditional Irish music) but this 'bare bones' version should provide

a good foundation for those keen to learn it and you can add the fancy stuff in when

you familiarize yourself with the tune.
