Stairs To The Attic

G C I decided on that evening that I was through with sitting still G C I stood up and started moving with a childlike fascination G For those doors that don't have locks C And the stairways that were blocked G So I dug through the obstruction C Put my fist around the railing G And each step was far apart C And far away from steps before it G And the air was getting thinner C Til I couldn't breathe at all G And if I happened to look behind me C There were miles and miles of stairs G Enough so I couldn't see the doorway C But I knew that it was there G And on the last step I was dizzy C 'Cause there were stairs in all directions G But I found another door C And through the door there was the attic G Without old clothes Without a ceiling C Everything had opened wide G Into the jaws of something bigger C And suddenly I saw that I was G C G C Upstairs and outside and freezing on the roof G C Finally it had found me G C G The answer, the feeling, and the truth: G That I'm small That I'm small That I'm small I'm smaller than the smallest fireball.
