G G In the war of the rebellion way, way back when G While the mists swept cross the land G Well those bushwhackers took whatever they wanted G They were cruel and heartless men G Mister Hanson hid his family way back in the woods G Where he thought they could never be found G But his old randy rooster couldn't help himself G And he crowed just a little too loud G A roving band of bandits G Heard that fateful sound G They made their way to the hidden homestead G Cuz the rooster let the menfolk down G G G G G They made Missus Hanson pluck the feathers out G And cook up a chicken stew G The bushwhackers ate until they had their fill G And I swear this tale is true G In that lonely holler down round upper Richland Creek G Hardly anyone passes that way G Not a soul has lived there for a hundred years or more G It is haunted all the old folks say G I am told that weary travellers G Walking down that lonesome road G Swear by the light of the silvery moon G That they hear an old rooster crow G Er-er-Er-er-Er
