A# In ancient times Gm God built a monument D# A# F At the dawn of creation A# He hallowed and blessed Gm Those moments of rest D# F That day of complete veneration Gm That pillar He made D# Not of stone, but of time A# The hours were sacred F The idea divine A# And the morning stars sang Gm For joy they did shine D# F A# And shout, that first week of creation A# And lest they forget Gm He made angels’ food fall D# A# F Down from the sky, on all days but one A# And He wrote it down Gm For the sake of us all D# F Among the ten rules on the stone Gm Those rules about murder D# And stealing, and lying A# F Engraving with blazing finger, defying A# Gm Whoever in heaven or hell should endeavor D# F A# To change the commandments He wrote F A# D# Here is the patience of the saints A# F Here are those who keep Gm D# The commandments of God D# F D# And the faith of Jesus A# Then came God’s own Son Gm To show us the way D# A# F He hallowed that same Sabbath day A# The pure Lamb of God Gm As our soil He trod D# F In God’s perfect will He did stay Gm ‘Til heaven and earth D# Shall indeed pass away A# Not one dot or one dash F Will be changed, He did say A# The apostles of old Gm Kept and honored, we’re told D# F A# That same law that their Master obeyed A# For three hundred years Gm After our Savior died D# A# F And arose from the grave and ascended on high A# The Christians respected Gm The law in the stone D# F The one written with finger divine Gm But then came the day D# Constantine was his name A# F The emperor who over Rome did reign A# Tore down the old landmark Gm The pillar of God D# F A# And erected the day of the sun F A# D# Here is the patience of the saints A# F Here are those who keep Gm D# The commandments of God D# F D# And the faith of Jesus A# As millennia passed Gm D# The memory of God’s pillar of time A# F Was slowly erased A# Gm By the ceaseless waves of generations D# F Of human traditions and days Gm But God calls His people D# Out from among them A# To point to His word F And light up the darkness A# And restore the knowledge Gm Of God’s special covenant D# F A# Preserved from the dawning of time Gm D# Lest you think that the crowds A# F Gm Can’t be wrong today D# A# Remember the crowd D# F In a land far away Gm D# The mob who blindly A# F Rejected their King Gm D# And the pride of the priests A# F And their deadly sting Gm D# A# F Gm As the jealous, lying accusations they bring D# Gm F D# And they murder their humble Messiah A# The beast left its mark Gm On the pages of time D# Pushed a heathen day A# F In place of the divine A# Thought to change times and laws Gm The laws that God’s finger D# F Engraved on the tables of stone Gm D# Those who oppose it, it tramples and kills A# F That city that sits on seven hills Gm That mark it causes D# Small and great to receive D# On forehead or hand D# F On thought or in deed Gm D# It cares not whether you’re really deceived Gm F Or just afraid, and so follow its lead F A# D# Here is the patience of the saints A# F Here are those who keep Gm D# The commandments of God D# F D# And the faith of Jesus Gm D# A# Remember (If you love Me, keep my commandments) Gm D# A# Remember (If you love Me, keep my D# commandments) D# A# Remember
