Kept On Walking

Dm Dm I woke up early this morning Bb Went downtown and I got a cup of coffee C F Drink it on up then I got a little jumpy C Dm Then I had a thought that I can't remember Dm Walked around town looking down at my shadow Bb Pick up a nickel older than I C Gave it to a man who needed a shot of liquor A I could tell by the look in his eye Dm Walking around the bus station I saw a young girl Bb Couldn't have been older than 13 C Smoking a cigarette pregnant and barefoot Dm I said "Hello" she said "The world is mean" So I kept on walking Bb Taking in the scenery C Observing everything A And what it means to me D Could it be as simple Dm Bb As me just being me C F Looking for sweet Conformation A So I kept on walking Dm To the hardware store Bb Asked the manager for an application C And on the way out I threw it in the trash cuz Am F Something in my head said just be patient Dm I saw a bunch of birds on top of the court house Bb Sitting on the edge all in a row C If I didn't know better I'd swear they were watching me A I think I heard a bird tell another there he goes Dm Then saw a mannequin in the window Bb The prettiest woman that I've ever seen C Wearing a green dress and beautiful string of pearls C She wasn't interested in me Repeat Dm To a seat on a bench on the corner F Bb Took a little rest beneath the shady tree F 'Long came an old lady with a walking cane C Dm And she sat down next to me. She said Hey there dreamer how are you doing?
