C Am It was the last train of the evening Dm G The sun was setting low E7 Am As we pulled out of the station F G I glanced up to see its glow C Am In the window a reflection Dm G Of a face I used to know E7 Am In an old life, in a young life F G We both lived so long ago C Bb She could dance from dusk till dawning F She could twist and shout with joy D7 Dm G And I was hers forever, her first and only boy C Am But in that old life, in that young life Dm G I was far too smart to know Dm G F That the one regret I'd harbour yet G C Was that I let her go Am She was reading as I watched her Dm G Till she turned another page E7 Am From the lines upon her face now F G You could never tell her age C Am But I knew I looked so different Dm G Time just hadn't been that kind E7 Am On my face were etched the failures F G Of the life I'd left behind C F As we slowed she closed her novel Stood to take her suitcase down D Turned and paused and stared at me G Then shadowed by a frown C Am Shook her head, took her case Dm G Moved towards the door Dm G Another time, another place F G C But leaving me once more C Bb She could dance from dusk till dawning F G She could twist and shout with joy, and that Dm G F That the one regret I'd harbour yet G C Was that I let her go
