G Well Windy Bill was a Texas man C G And he could rope, you bet G The steer that Windy couldn't tie A D Well he had not fought him yet G But the boys they talked of a little black steer C G Was a kind of a bad outlaw G He lived way down at the bottoms D G At the foot of a rocky draw G Well this old black steer had held his ground C G With punchers from everywhere G So the boys bet Windy two-to-one A D That he could not quite get there G And Windy busts out this old roan horse C G Who's withers and back were raw G And sets out to tackle that little black brute D G That lives down in the draw G With his sam slick tree, his brazos bits C G His chaps and taps to boot G His old Macguey tied hard and fast A D Bill goes to tackle the brute G And the little roan horse he sauntered around C G And the steer began to paw G Then he stuck his tail straight up in the air D G And he heads down through the draw G Well Windy's horse went after him C G Just like he'd been eatin' corn G And Windy stuck that old Macguey A D Right 'round the black steer's horns G And the little roan horse he shut it right down C G And the cinches bust like straw G And the old macguey and the sam slick tree D G Went driftin' down the draw G Well Windy lands in the big rock pile C G And his face and hands was scratched G Said he could always rope a steer A D But he'd guess'd he'd met his match G And he takes his bets like a little old man C G Without no bit of jaw G And allows old black steer was the boss D G Of everything in the draw G Now the moral of the story boys C G Is very plain to see G When you go out to rope your steer A D Don't tie hard your macguey G But you take your dallies like a man C G To the California law G And you won't see your old rimfire D G Go driftin' down the draw G D G
