N.C. You know American folklore is filled with legendary characters, like, um, N.C. Billy the Kid, Johnny Appleseed, Pecos Bill, and probably the greatest one of all N.C. has got to be Paul Bunyan. Cause he was the meanest and the biggest and the dirtiest C F G C Tabacca-chewingest and the funkiest and the, the best woodchopper of all of 'em. C F Well he rode through the woods on a big blue ox G C He had fists as hard as choppin' blocks C F Five hundred pounds and nine feet tall G C That's Paul C F Talk about working, when he swings his ax G C you could hear it ring for a mile and half C F And he'd yell timber and down she'd fall G C for Paul C F Talk about drinkin' that man's so mean G C that he'd never drink nothin' but kerosene C F A five gallon can is a little bit small G C for Paul C F Talk about women that man's so lusty, G C needs a woman ever hour just to keep from gettin' rusty C F Young ones run and the old ones crawl G C to Paul C F Talk about tough well he once had a fight G C with a thunderstorm on a cold dark night C F I ain't sayin' who won but it don't storm at all G C A7 D round here thanks to Paul D G He was ninety years old when he said with a sigh A D said I think I'm gonna lay right down and die D G Cause sunshine and sorrow I've seen it all A D says Paul D G Says there ain't no man alive can k**l me, A D ain't no woman left can thrill me D G And I think a heaven just might be a ball A D says Paul D G A D So he died and we cried D G It took eighteen men just to bust the ground, A D took three or four more just to lower him down D G Then we covered him up and we figured that was all A D for Paul D G But late one night the trees started shaking A D and the dogs started barking and the earth started quaking D G And out of the ground with a hi y'all A D came Paul D G Well he shook the dirt from off his clothes, A D he scratched his ass and wiped his nose D G You know being dead wasn't no fun at all A D says Paul Verse 11 D G He said now up in heaven they got harps on their knees, A D they got clouds and wings but they got no trees D G I don't think that's much of a heaven at all A D says Paul Verse 12 D G So he jumps on his ox with a fare thee well, A D he said I'll find out if they got trees in hell D G He rode away that was all A D we ever seen of Paul Verse 13 D G But the next time you hear a timber yell A D that sounds like it's comin' from the pits of hell D G Then a boomin' laugh and a ghostly wail like A D somebody choppin' on the devil's tail D G Then a shout and a call, a crash and a fall A N.C.
