Em C G D 4x G D G C Beneath a western sky on the way to Santa Fe D Am I met up with a rounder G C claimed he rode with Jesse James G D C They robbed the Glendale Train G D G As we crossed the Texas plains G C not a blessed word was said D Am G C Till we reached Amarillo, then he raised his weary head G D C He said, “Son, I’ll soon be dead” G D G C I have so much to tell you, but I’m left so little time D Am There’s a place out in the Badlands G C About a two day ride G D C It’s not so hard to find D Am C Frank and Jesse holed up in a cave for forty days D Am G C Took all that they could carry, then hid the rest away Bm C G D Frank grew tired of living like a dog out on the run Bm C G D and Jesse soon fell victim to a blast from Bob Ford’s gun Am C D Now I’m the only one Em C G D 4x G D G C His voice it faltered there and he soon passed away D Am I laid him six feet under G C that hard West Texas clay G D C And then I rode away G D G C I found everything he told me near the place they call Red Cloud D Am With the gold I found a letter G D C when I read I cried out loud G D C It said, “Your momma would be proud” G D G Some men are born to freedom G C While others come to fame D Am G C And some will leave with nothing but a marker and their name G D C In the end it’s all the same
